Abstract

Distributed systems hold significant promise for shaping the next generation of algorithmic applications. Centralized algorithmic automation already plays a critical role in driving societal progress — streamlining human interaction, improving outputs and performance, and enhancing the way technology functions within society. Yet the very benefits that centralized algorithmic automation brings also introduce hard-to-measure risks for humanity. Decentralized systems offer a meaningful path forward, providing a way to reduce the adverse effects and hidden dangers of algorithmic automation, while increasing the long-term value of technological solutions for the benefit of humanity.
